And for those with an interest in days of years gone by, a visit to Hartlepool’s Historic Quay is an absolute must. Incorporating the sights, smells and sounds from the time of Nelson and Trafalgar, the faithful reproduction of an 18th Century seaport makes for an impressive experience.

The nearby Tees Transporter Bridge is an absolutely stunning sight. Built in 1907, it spans the River Tees and carries 750 people and 600 cars in the carrying car which sits over 160ft over the water.
